Let me begin by clarifying that I am not Catholic. I have friends that are, however, and have been intrigued recently by the list of habits and vices they are giving up for Lent. According to Ask.com, “Lent is a Catholic period of fasting, penance, and reflection on the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. It lasts for 40 days (not including Sundays) beginning on Ash Wednesday and ending with Easter.” With this in mind, contemplation began. Catholic or not, the concept is an important one. I thought about what I could give up – what in my life has a grip on me that I would like to regain control over or relinquish to God? A few things came to mind, but nothing that I felt passionate about. After praying over it with a nice hot latte {that I was not willing to give up for a non-Catholic Lent}, my answer was clear to me. I didn’t need to give up something that had a grip on me as much as I needed to get a grip on something that has been escaping me for far too long! So, in honor of Lent for non-Catholics, I’m proposing a 40 Day Fitness Challenge. I am committing to 30 minutes of exercise a day for the period of Lent: Wednesday, March 9th through Saturday, April 23rd {excluding Sundays}. I would love support and accountability from others ready to step up with their sneakers on too. Will you join me in this challenge?
If you want to join me in blogging about it too, snag the super cute graphic above by Brittany at His Mrs. Hooah and link back to me. I will make sure to include your participation in my posts!

Go for it girl. Virtual support is here
Thanks!
Hey April, I’ll join you in the challenge
I’m not Catholic but I do lent. Here’s a good read if you are interested in why. Lent isn’t necessarily about giving something up, but about doing something to prepare our hearts for Him. http://www.lifeingraceblog.com/2011/03/lent-for-the-newcomer-learning-from-my-father.html
This year I am giving up facebook. Not because facebook is bad, but because for me, it’s taking a spot in my life that God hsould be filling. I’m checking it all the time and putting it in a spot where it’s taking me away from my family and my God. My self control is terrible when it comes to FB. I’m going to be replacing it with studying his Word.
I love that perspective Laura and thank you for joining me in the challenge! I’m hoping that my 30 minutes a day of exercise will also give me an extra 30 minutes a day of time with God. It’s definitely a matter of changing our priorities! Best wishes in giving up Facebook, although I will miss you
oh girl I need to give it up so bad. I feel like I won’t survive without it. That’s when I got a big msack in the face that HELLO something is wrong! I’m awful! Here’s hoping for more God time, healthier bodies, way less computer time, and closer relationships w/friends and family!
