I wanted to start a new family tradition this year and celebrate the birth of Jesus with a cake on Christmas Eve. Kylie helped me bake and decorate the first cake I’ve ever made in my life. That’s right, I’m 34 years old and this is my first cake! My expectations weren’t very high as I have never enjoyed cooking or baking of any sort. After mixing, baking, and letting the cakes cool, we iced and stacked them. It wasn’t long before it started falling apart – cracking and sliding off the top.. I tried to hide my disappointment as Kylie covered the cake in sprinkles and colorful icing. “This has got to be the ugliest cake I’ve ever seen”, I said with a sigh. “Don’t say that!” Kylie yelled, “it’s beautiful.” I realized at that moment how perfectly right she was – especially considering who this cake was for. This cake was just like each of us – broken and imperfect – not worthy for our Savior. He loves each and every one of us anyway, and I’m pretty sure he loves our first cake just the same.
