Watch Me Grow – Then & Now with ‘Kenzie, Newborn and 4 months!

I don’t know about you, but I’m a before and after junkie!  Being a highly visual person, I’m always drawn to images documenting growth, change, or just the progress of life.  As you can imagine, I tend to be pretty fascinated when my itty-bitty newborn baby clients come back for their 4 month, 8 month, or first birthday portraits.  It never occurred to me that maybe YOU would enjoy the comparisons as well, until McKenzie came along for her 4 month portraits.  I will make it a point to share more of the “then & now” updates so that you all can enjoy watching the babies grow too!

McKenzie was such a sweet, beautiful little newborn girl!  These were my two favorite images from her newborn portrait session:

newborn baby girl with princess tiara and her frogsmiling newborn baby girl with her Daddy's Army uniform and dogtags

And here she was at her 4 month baby session – I just adore how her smile is exactly the same!  She’s even more beautiful now that shes batting her baby blues too.

I hope you enjoy these as much as I do, because I have plenty more to share.  Thanks for following along and sharing too!

Fleeting.

“They grow up so quickly”

We’ve all heard it at least once, right?  It’s definitely true!  Our children evolve daily. Those little changes here and there sneak up on us and suddenly out of nowhere we find ourselves questioning when this happened and where time went.  This is never more true than those first few weeks of life.  Often times after finishing a newborn gallery of images for a client, they comment on how much the baby has changed in those weeks.  It’s inevitable.

I wish I would have known the drastic changes a baby goes through that first year back when I had my daughter.  I wish newborn portraiture was as popular back then as it is now.  My very first professional portrait of Kylie was when she was 4 months old.  Although I am very glad that we had her photographed regardless, I’m just a little heartbroken that we never captured those first days, weeks, months…

If you have an opportunity to take advantage of newborn portraiture, please do it!  I understand that it may not be an option for everyone, and that’s ok.  But, if you have a choice or you’re on the fence – schedule a session!  Not necessarily with me, just schedule one in general!  It may not seem important while you’re reading this.  I promise that 5 years from now when your “newborn” is a beautiful spitfire of personality attending kindergarten, you will thank me.

I promise.

Cheese{y}

CHEEEEEEEEEESE!  It’s what we all say during picture time, right?  We tell our children repeatedly, “everyone say cheese”!  We all do it – we’re all guilty.  I would like to take on the roll of the cheese police for a moment though in the honor of all photographers in America.  Stop the insanity!!!  Chances are your child has the most adorable smile, but it’s rarely captured without the help of a professional.  Why?  Because we don’t ask them to say CHEESE!  Here you’ve wondered all along why the only expressions you’ve managed to capture are silly faces and cheesey grins.  There is a reason those grins are called cheesey you know?  So, my advice to you:

*  Talk to your child – ask questions and be silly.  Make them laugh!

*  Capture the moments in between the cheese.  The simple, true expressions of innocence that only children can portray.  Whether they’re serious, pensive, looking away, silly, or anything in between.  You will want to remember these just as much as the adorable smile.

*  If all else fails, pick a different word.  Try monkey!  Or better yet, say “On the count of 3 say Mommy’s a monkey!” – it’s sure to get a few laughs and genuine smiles.

Thanks for reading and allowing my cheese police rant.  Join in with me and help educate America – cut the cheese!  heh 🙂
