Winning the real challenge

I’m not sure why I am so blown away by the love and support of EVERYONE for the picture of the triplets in the BEST NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHER contest.  Considering the history of family, friends, and strangers across the world reaching out to bless these babies, I should have predicted the same enthusiasm from all of you again.

Those of you that have voted may know that there is one {super adorable} competing image in particular that has been neck and neck with the triplets.  The photographer is wonderfully talented and also owns a very successful and popular newborn prop business {that I adore} – I envy her notoriety and network in the market for sure!  I sent her a message complimenting her on the beautiful image and wishing her the best of luck.  She responded with compliments for my image as well and wished me luck.  The next sentence filled my heart with joy,

“your support from your family and friends is beautiful”.

I can’t put into words how grateful I am to be blessed with all of you.  Although the contest goes until August 31st, I know in my heart that whether or not we have the most “likes” is not what really matters.  With all of the random acts of kindness, sharing and votes from strangers, encouraging comments & messages, prayers, endless love & support we have already won the real challenge.

Thank you.

Best Newborn Photographer Nominee | Clarksville, TN | Fort Campbell, KY

Like most other mornings, I started my day Wednesday responding to emails, Facebook messages and comments on my fanpage.  Upon reading a wall post of congratulations from a fellow local photographer, I did a double take.

“I am so excited your image of the triplets was chosen for top 10 of best newborn photographers, you know you have my vote! :)”

Do what????  I scurried over to the Best Newborn Photographer contest page expecting to see the “Sugar, Spice & Everything Nice” image of the triplets I was coaxed into submitting by a few beloved photografriends.  I immediately realized I was wrong – a different image of mine was chosen in the top 10.  It was still of the triplets, however, one that didn’t receive much publicity and definitely one that I did not submit.

I am still uncertain as to whom I owe this gratitude, but thank you regardless.  You can imagine the surprise and excitement that came over me once it all sunk in.  I’m working the job of my dreams, I’ve grown leaps and bounds in a little over a year in business, and I’m surrounded by people that love, encourage and support me enough to nominate me anonymously.  As if that isn’t enough of a blessing, then add the fact that the chosen image was of the triplets – the tiny little miracles that have changed my life.  Ironically, although my mission was to help make a difference and give to the babies, they have been the ones who have given so much to me.

If you have a moment and love this portrait as much as I do, please head over to the contest and click on the picture of the triplets.  Be sure to click “like” so that your vote will count, and spread the word by sharing on your Facebook page.  I would be beyond ecstatic to win, however, I am in a state of pure bliss to even be included in the top 10.   Thank you all!

Little Miracles. Clarksville Triplet Newborn Baby Photographer

Sometimes life is just HARD.  Circumstances change in an instant – one minute on the top of the world and the next feeling as if you’re at the end of the world.  People come in and out of our lives and we may never know the mountains they’ve climbed or the storms they’re enduring.  They may never know our battles either.

Since childhood, I’ve always been the one intent on rescuing everyone.  I can’t count the number of times I brought home a stray animal, invested in a homeless person or took in a friend in need – much to my mother’s dismay.  The one thing I have always struggled with is rescuing myself in times of need.  I wouldn’t ask for help, I would bottle up my feelings, and I’d keep on truckin’ with the infamous mantra “fake it til you make it”.

This past Winter and Spring, I endured one big monster of a storm.  Although I continued to move through life as if I was just fine, I wasn’t getting better emotionally.  No matter how much I “faked it”, I couldn’t seem to “make it”.  I felt as if I had lost my spirit – my joy.  Bitterness had overcome me and I couldn’t see past my own pain and circumstances.  I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to shake this “funk” that I was going through.  My Aunt Mona casually suggested to maybe do something for someone else.  I will admit that I thought she was ridiculous and that she couldn’t possibly understand my pain.

Shortly after, my pastor challenged our church to commit to random acts of kindness that week.  Convenient, right?  I felt a little tug on my heart – I knew God had a plan.  After posting a casting call, I had the newborn triplets lined up for a free photoshoot.  My dear friend Jamie drove up to help {posing 3 babies takes extra hands for sure!}.  During the 3-4 hours we were photographing, we learned this family’s story – that the triplets were naturally conceived, joining 3 siblings ages 4, 3, and 2, facing a military relocation to Oklahoma in 2 weeks, and that the family hadn’t received any aid whatsoever from their Army “family”.  I knew what God was telling me to do – there was no doubt.

The fundraiser started out small with $5 – $20 donations here and there from average families living paycheck to paycheck.  A handful of big contributors stepped in with $100 donations, and families all over brought bags and bags of items for triplets.  Two cribs, a stroller, boxes and boxes of diapers and wipes, bags and bags of clothes, baby toys and gear, and so much more.  Jamie Lynn Photography offered to donate $1 for every new Facebook fan she received until the fundraiser ended.  She challenged other businesses to match her pledge and 4 very charitable small businesses took her up on that.  In a week’s time, we were able to give the triplets and their family $2,100 and more than a van full of material donations.  It was truly amazing – my heart was filled to the brim with joy.

During that week, I babysat the babies a few times to allow the parents time to pack, get moved out of their apartment, and go out to dinner for a date {I had to force them to do that one}.  I became so attached to these little angels – my heart would pound and tears would well up in my eyes at the thought of them leaving the next day.  Mulling over the past week, I realized that I hadn’t thought about last spring’s “storm” and the “funk” I had battled for so long.  The relentless hurt and painful memories barely crossed my mind the whole week.  I was driven and focused on helping this family and easing their struggles.  I wanted to rescue them.  Never in a million years would I have imagined that these babies would have rescued ME.

I cried my heart out when we said goodbye – partly because I was going to miss them to pieces and I wouldn’t get to watch them grow like so many other babies I photograph.  Honestly, the majority of the tears were pure love and gratitude for the little miracles these babies have been to me.  Because of them, I have finally found my joy.

Abigail, Gabriel, and Lucas – thank you.  From the bottom of my heart, to the moon and back, thank you.

Triple Generosity! Clarksville, TN Triplet Newborn Photographer

“Let’s all commit to performing two random acts of kindness this week”, my pastor suggested.  Who would have thought the this would have ensued?

I challenged my clients and fans to committing to a random act of kindness as well, and was pleasantly surprised by the responses and eagerness from all of you.  Mine started as a complimentary newborn triplet session for the family with the disk of images for them to keep.  I hadn’t decided what my second random act of kindness was going to be yet until the photo session took place and I got to know the family more.  They are a young, lower enlisted military family with a 2, 3 & 4 year old, about to be relocated, with naturally conceived newborn triplets.  Because multiples are more common these days with IVF, it’s not as common for the community to help families anymore.  I knew that my second random act of kindness was going to be helping this family – even if it were a small donation.  I knew I had the MOST AMAZING CLIENTS AND FANS IN THE WHOLE WORLD!!!!  I knew we could make a difference.

All of you started pouring in DONATIONS – mostly between $5 and $20.  It was a profound realization to me that every day people living paycheck to paycheck could make a BIG change with just $5 – IF we all came together.  I started receiving checks in the mail for the family and a few $100 donations as well.  Families have donated baby clothes, diapers, and wipes.  As of right now we have raised over $500 for this family!

I was blessed to have the help of Jamie Lynn Photography for the triplet newborn portraits – she committed to donating $1 for every new fan of her Facebook Page until August 5th, and challenged other businesses to do the same.  So far, these wonderful businesses have taken her up on the challenge, and have ALL committed to donating $1 to the triplets and their family for every new fan between now and August 5th!!!

I know what you’re thinking:  How can I help??  🙂
FIRST – be sure to click the above links and “like” their pages to become a fan, earning the triplets more donations.

SECOND – SHARE the news!!!  Please share this with friends and family and help us gather support.

THIRD – DONATE!  If you have a triple stroller, we’re in dire need for one.  Baby gear of any kind would be a huge blessing.  If you have an extra $5 – $20 that you feel moved to give, thank you!  We only have until August 5th to give the family all of our blessings and send them on their way for their relocation.

FOURTH – Last, but surely not least:  commit to a random act of kindness today.

Thank you all for your love and support, always.

Here is a sneak peek at my first triplet newborn babies!  These little angels were welcomed as a big surprise by an enlisted military family with three previous children.  Besides recently doubling their family size, they are facing a military relocation in a week as well.  There is a need for help in this huge transition this family is enduring.  If you are local and would like to donate diapers, clothes, gift cards, baby gear, etc – please contact me to arrange a drop-off within the next week.  If you would prefer to donate via PayPal, you may do that as well by following this link:  DONATE HERE.  I will be giving the family all the funds raised before they move to their next duty station.  I appreciate all of your support, thanks so much everyone!
