Newborn Twin Brothers Ethan & Eli | Clarksville Newborn Photographer

Newborn Twin Baby Boys These twin brothers stole my heart and the public spotlight more than once over the past few months.  Considering that their mother and father were both soldiers in the Army and served together in Afghanistan, I should have expected these precious little “military brats” to take charge and steal hearts along the way.  Born micro-preemies, the boys were 9 weeks old by time they graced me with their presence.  Even so, they were each approximately 5 lbs at the time.  Tiny!

To honor their dual military parents, we incorporated Mom & Dad’s Uniform Shirts atop the separate tiers of a miniature bunk bed.  The setup proved to be not only meaningful and PERSONAL to the family, but also a big hit with the public.  BEST NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHERS featured the image of the boys on the bunk bed on THE BLOG and their Facebook Fanpage on December 2nd, 2012.

This image was featured at BEST NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHERS as well on December 29th, and proves to be a favorite image for many (including me).  I plead the 5th on which brother this is though – I refuse to play favorites!

Since the boys were photographed in MOvember {November} and have a grandfather with a famous ‘stache, we decided to run with it and photograph them supporting the cause as well.  It became another little personal touch that tells a story about their family, which is an important part of what I strive to give each client.  Here they are pictured with their Grandfather:

Apparently the newborn ‘stache picture was appreciated by more than just the family it represented.  Plenty of giggles and comments came about, and BEST BABY PHOTOGRAPHERS shared the picture on their Facebook Fanpage on November 28th.  How fun!

Being the middle of the holidays, we put together a very fitting Facebook Timeline Cover for Mom & Dad too – it still makes me chuckle 🙂

Silent Night? Yeah Right! Newborn Twins

When Daddy & Mommy were deployed together in Afghanistan, Daddy gave Mommy a teddy bear lovingly named “Beans”.  How appropriate that Beans be photographed with the boys now!  I wonder what will become of Beans once the boys are old enough to realize there is only ONE Beans?  I think we may have to check back with the parents in a few years to find out.  Until then, they were perfectly content sharing him in sweet slumber.

Here are a few more favorites from our time together, including this adorable shot with tiny little newborn baby fedora hats from Kasey’s Creations!  (She makes the infamous little newborn Army caps as well).  You can follow her on Facebook too if you like, tell her I sent you!

All in all, it was a wonderful session!  My dear friend Jasmine over at The Jazzy Peony Prop Shop assisted with the babies, stop by her Facebook Fanpage and give her some love if you get a chance!

Last but not least, I must include the obligatory sleeping parent out-take that so many of you love.  With twins, I expected Mom to be knocked out much sooner and for much longer, but I will take what I can get 🙂

I hope you’ve enjoyed these images and “getting to know” this family with me.  Just for fun, if this blog post receives 20 comments this month, then the family will receive a free gift!  So, if you love what you see, please make sure you SHARE IT so others can see what you love too.  Thank you!

Watch Me Grow – Then & Now with 'Kenzie, Newborn and 4 months!

I don’t know about you, but I’m a before and after junkie!  Being a highly visual person, I’m always drawn to images documenting growth, change, or just the progress of life.  As you can imagine, I tend to be pretty fascinated when my itty-bitty newborn baby clients come back for their 4 month, 8 month, or first birthday portraits.  It never occurred to me that maybe YOU would enjoy the comparisons as well, until McKenzie came along for her 4 month portraits.  I will make it a point to share more of the “then & now” updates so that you all can enjoy watching the babies grow too!

McKenzie was such a sweet, beautiful little newborn girl!  These were my two favorite images from her newborn portrait session:

newborn baby girl with princess tiara and her frogsmiling newborn baby girl with her Daddy's Army uniform and dogtags

And here she was at her 4 month baby session – I just adore how her smile is exactly the same!  She’s even more beautiful now that shes batting her baby blues too.

I hope you enjoy these as much as I do, because I have plenty more to share.  Thanks for following along and sharing too!

Labor Of Love | Giving Back

Do you remember the Labor of Love, Happy Labor Day giveaway?  A complimentary newborn portrait session was up for grabs for the first baby born on Labor day in the surrounding areas of Clarksville, TN , Fort Campbell, KY , and Hopkinsville, KY.

Nia Joelle was the Labor of Love winner – born at 5:47pm on Labor Day in Fort Campbell, KY.  Nia’s newborn portrait session went well – she was a sweet little sleeper and her older sister stole the spotlight every now and then.  It was an honor to work with this family and to pay it forward by blessing them with a complimentary newborn session.  Here are some of my favorite images from Nia’s newborn gallery.

Are you loving these little newborn tutu and headband sets as much as I do???  Check out one of my favorite vendors Wren and Ribbon for more of her chic and unique accessories.  Be sure to become a fan of hers on Facebook too!

Best Newborn Photographer Winner!

Just in case you missed the verdict, we WON Best Newborn Photographer for September 2012!  Not me, WE.  Two very important, life-changing votes set us apart from second place.  You read that right:  we won by TWO VOTES.  One, two.

Why “we”?  I can list a million reasons as to why this is a group win and not just a personal win for me as a photographer.  Here are a few of my favorites:

  • This image was created in a joint effort with my very dear friend Jamie of Jamie Lynn Photography.  She brought equipment and props all the way from Alabama and we both sweated our tails off photographing these babies for hours.  She has a nearly identical image in her portfolio as well.  I promise whole-heartedly that she earned this just as much as I did.
  • The image would have never been considered if it were never nominated to the Best Newborn Photographers contest!  Thank you for taking that extra step on my behalf.
  • Although it was chosen in the top 10, the image logically didn’t stand much of a chance in the face of some of the newborn photography giants competing alongside the triplets.  With 6 minutes remaining in the contest, the triplets were tied with another image – both having 1,232 votes.  Over one THOUSAND people contributed to this win!!
  • Throughout the week of the contest, the image was shared hundreds of times.  I wish I could track an exact number, but the hundreds of you that rallied for this win by sharing and asking for votes definitely earned a claim to the title.
  • My family campaigned for me like you wouldn’t believe.  My father (who isn’t even on Facebook and barely knows how to surf the net) called all of his clients and friends and insisted on votes.  My mother did the same and was caught more than once showing the triplet’s picture to random strangers with babies and requesting that they go vote.  My granny (who is nearly impossible to say no to) was very persistent in sharing the contest and requesting votes (drill sergeant style).  This title definitely belongs to them too.
  • And last, but not least – the two people that cast those last two deciding votes.  There would be no title if it weren’t for them.  A very humbling realization indeed.

I have come to realize that life is made up of collaborative efforts in our pursuits and endeavors.  Whether it’s work related, life as parents, fundraising, making the world a better place, or just deep in prayer – we are never, EVER alone.  Thank you God, and a huge heartfelt thanks to all of you!

Little Labor of Love

Congratulations to newborn baby girl Nia Joelle!  She was born at 5:47pm today – just in time to claim the complimentary newborn portrait session this Labor Day.  I snagged a mobile picture her mom shared so that you could see the little ball of uber cuteness I get to work with.  I am ecstatic to get to hold her and meet her family on 9-11 next week.  Look for a Facebook Fanpage sneak peek from her session on Tuesday 🙂

Fleeting.

“They grow up so quickly”

We’ve all heard it at least once, right?  It’s definitely true!  Our children evolve daily. Those little changes here and there sneak up on us and suddenly out of nowhere we find ourselves questioning when this happened and where time went.  This is never more true than those first few weeks of life.  Often times after finishing a newborn gallery of images for a client, they comment on how much the baby has changed in those weeks.  It’s inevitable.

I wish I would have known the drastic changes a baby goes through that first year back when I had my daughter.  I wish newborn portraiture was as popular back then as it is now.  My very first professional portrait of Kylie was when she was 4 months old.  Although I am very glad that we had her photographed regardless, I’m just a little heartbroken that we never captured those first days, weeks, months…

If you have an opportunity to take advantage of newborn portraiture, please do it!  I understand that it may not be an option for everyone, and that’s ok.  But, if you have a choice or you’re on the fence – schedule a session!  Not necessarily with me, just schedule one in general!  It may not seem important while you’re reading this.  I promise that 5 years from now when your “newborn” is a beautiful spitfire of personality attending kindergarten, you will thank me.

I promise.

Winning the real challenge

I’m not sure why I am so blown away by the love and support of EVERYONE for the picture of the triplets in the BEST NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHER contest.  Considering the history of family, friends, and strangers across the world reaching out to bless these babies, I should have predicted the same enthusiasm from all of you again.

Those of you that have voted may know that there is one {super adorable} competing image in particular that has been neck and neck with the triplets.  The photographer is wonderfully talented and also owns a very successful and popular newborn prop business {that I adore} – I envy her notoriety and network in the market for sure!  I sent her a message complimenting her on the beautiful image and wishing her the best of luck.  She responded with compliments for my image as well and wished me luck.  The next sentence filled my heart with joy,

“your support from your family and friends is beautiful”.

I can’t put into words how grateful I am to be blessed with all of you.  Although the contest goes until August 31st, I know in my heart that whether or not we have the most “likes” is not what really matters.  With all of the random acts of kindness, sharing and votes from strangers, encouraging comments & messages, prayers, endless love & support we have already won the real challenge.

Thank you.
